Ciel de guerre en Indochine

Published in 1953 as a frame of reference for French aviators during the war in Indochina, this album later became a precious historical record of a conflict that dragged on for many years. It was sold by subscription only so collectors now scour the Internet for the rare copies still in circulation.

Saigon

(out of print)

Raymond Cauchetier was fascinated by the Vietnamese people and, despite the war, he made many friends among them. This book is a portrait of the people rather than the city, photographed in the streets or on the banks of the Arroyo Chinois (Rach Bên Nghe). André Malraux and Graham Greene were its most famous admirers.

Autour de la Nouvelle Vague (1958-1968)

Image France Editions published a book of Raymond Cauchetier’s photographs about the French New Wave film movement.
Marc Vernet, professor of film studies at the Sorbonne and former director of the Film Library, contributed to the book.
“The force of Raymond Cauchetier’s photos is not due to the outstanding character of the stars he photographs (the actors are almost all beginners), or to the artistic dimension of the filmmakers he works for, as Georges Pierre worked for Alain Resnais, for example. The force of his photos is due to the fact that, before anyone else, before the films were edited and shown, he was able to catch the spirit of the movement which (at the time he took the photos) was to be the New Wave”. – Marc Vernet.

Although this exhibition attracted a big crowd, and teachers even took their classes to see it, no document was made available to the public.

However, a catalogue was published, in a limited edition reserved for the diplomatic staff and officials of the Republic of Vietnam. Collectors now pay astronomical prices for them.
